Can Egg Allergy Get Better: How Children Build Tolerance
Many children gradually build tolerance as they grow older, but the process varies from person to person and needs professional follow-up.
The natural course
The natural outcome of food allergy depends on the type of allergen, the type of symptoms, age and other factors. With egg, many children gradually build tolerance as they grow up and can return to a normal diet; some people continue to have it, or can only tolerate certain processed forms (such as well-baked egg products). To judge whether tolerance has been reached, a doctor needs to assess the history together with test results.
What follow-up usually looks at
- How long it has been since the last clear reaction and how severe that reaction was
- The trend of relevant test results over time
- The child's age and growth and development
- The family's ability to take part in a re-introduction assessment and their emergency preparations
What parents can do to prepare
Go to follow-up visits as planned, and bring the symptom records and food records; until the doctor has clearly assessed the situation, avoidance must still be followed strictly; if the doctor arranges a re-introduction assessment, do it at the hospital at the agreed time and in the agreed form, and do not test at home in advance. If severe signs such as difficulty breathing or a tight throat appear, call 120 (the emergency number in China) at once.
